Jessica Ramirez-Perea, 1st Grade Teacher at Davis Romero Bilingual Magnet School, Stephanie Alvarez, Curriculum Service Provider at Davis Romero, and Maura Varley Gutierrez, Associate Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona, recently represented our district at the La Cosecha Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico (November 12–14).

Their Bilingual Presentation highlighted the powerful impact of culturally responsive lessons in our Borderlands community. Together, they shared:
✅ Lesson overviews from 1st and 5th grade
✅ The planning process and key considerations
✅ Authentic lesson artifacts like books, student work, and graphic organizers
Participants even engaged in a sample activity and reflected on how to bring culturally responsive practices into their own classrooms.
